| Dr. John Perkins shares with a group of students at the Governor's Prayer Breakfast |
It’s been an exciting Spring! The 2007 Washington Student Leadership Forum took place March 1-3 in Olympia. We had over 100 students from across the state join with leaders in business, government, non-profit, and other sectors to focus on the person of Jesus and servant leadership. In particular, we learned how to better love God and love others. Our speakers were Ken Wilde, John Perkins, Richard Twiss, and Kevin Parker. The theme was reconciliation and each speaker brought a unique and personal word. Many students shared that this was a powerful and inspiring time to connect with leaders from our state and share how the person of Jesus transforms our concept of leadership. We were excited to cast a vision for a leadership led by Christ across our state. If the emerging generation joins together with our current leaders to focus on loving God and loving others in every aspect of life, it truly will be transformational. On April 27th, the Seattle/King County Prayer Breakfast took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Seattle. Our speaker was former congressman and Ambassador Tony Hall. Mr. Hall spoke about the issues of hunger and injustice worldwide and how we can respond with the love of Jesus. He challenged us to make a difference “one drop” at a time by simply doing what is in front of you. It was a wonderful time to gather with leaders, pray for our city, and be inspired to love with the love of Jesus! Washington Student Leadership is not about programs and events, but about the relationships that we develop with one another. We are excited about those relationships that have been built thus far and are looking forward to developing new ones. Currently, we are praying for a core group of students and leaders at each campus across our state that would begin praying together for their campus, city, and state as they model their lives after Jesus.
Enjoy your summer and we'll see you soon!
Washington Student Leadership Vision:
Our vision is to see emerging leaders coming together with current leaders of our communities and state that wish to follow the precepts of Jesus and experience His transformational work in and through our lives. Through this we will develop genuine relationships, cast a vision for a leadership led by Christ that inspires us to actively serve others, and further unite the work of His Kingdom.
