How to Give

There are many ways to financially support The Frederick Stephens III Memorial Scholarship Fund including current and future gifts. Leadership Development welcomes contributions by check, credit card, and encourages gifts of stock to the Scholarship. Each gift, regardless of the form in which it is received, is important in the fulfillment of our mission. All support makes a difference in the lives of future student leaders and allows the fund to continue in a tradition of excellence. Giving instruments available to donors include: Direct Donations, Matching Gifts and Stock Gifts.

Leadership Development is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization, and by designating your gift on behalf of the Frederick Stephens III Memorial Scholarship Fund through them, all donations are tax deductible. The tax deductible value of all gifts varies with the specific financial status of the donor. We recommend you consult your tax accountant or financial advisor before making any donation on which you plan to take a tax deduction.

Direct Donations

Direct Donor giving can be made online, through the mail, over the phone or in person. We appreciate your gift and wish to make the donation process as easy as possible. Give Online
One of the fastest most effective ways to give is online. You may also make a donation through our main page by simply, clicking here. By making an online donation in Fred's memory through Leadership Development's website, your donation is automatically directed toward the Frederick Stephens III Memorial Scholarship Fund. This site allows you to use a major credit card to make a onetime gift. After you have made your online donation, you will receive an automatic online processing notice and a receipt will be mailed to you no later than 30-days prior to April 1 of the following year the donation was received.

Matching Gifts

Employee/Employer Giving
Many companies encourage their employees' philanthropic efforts by matching their contributions to non-profit organizations such as Leadership Development. Some companies will even match the donations made by retirees and/or spouses. Every gift that is directed towards the F.E.S., III Fund contributes to the fulfillment of the mission of Frederick Stephens III Memorial Scholarship Fund. Therefore, you have the opportunity to double or even triple the impact that your gift has on future student leaders. Is your company a Matching Gift Company?
To find out if your company will match your gift, contact your Human Resources office or call to see if your company is one of our matching gift companies. To request a matching gift, ask for employer for the form used by your company, complete it and mail it to Leadership Development along with your gift. We will do the rest! What if you change employment?

Stock Gift

To notify us of your intention to make a stock gift, contact Cindy Leonard, in the coordinating office at (206) 985-1550 or email her at cindy@wafamily.com. It is strongly recommended that for each gift, one should forward a letter (by e-mail or regular mail) giving your name, the name of the shares being transferred, and the purpose for which the gift is to be used (i.e. Frederick Stephens III Memorial Scholarship Fund).

Estate Planning

Planned giving exists to help prior donors, individual philanthropists, student families, and friends of the Stephens family share in the Frederick Stephens III Memorial Scholarship Fund's mission. Furthermore it maximizes their stewardship while they reap rewards and benefit through minimizing estate taxes and receiving tax deferred income. The Scholarship Review Committee oversees the development of endowed scholarships, which directly affect more student leaders each year, helping them meet their financial obligations. Generational giving helps hundreds of families realize the financial benefit of preparing for the future with Living Trusts, Gift Annuities, Capital Gains Bypass Trusts, Wills and more. ABOUT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Established in 1991, Leadership Development is a publicly supported 501(c)(3) organization (Tax ID #91-1511748). It was established to benefit youth development and receives contributions from individuals, corporations, organizations, and foundations wishing to make lasting contributions to the development of student leaders through educational events and seminars. Contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law and in accordance with IRS regulations. Donors may deduct contributions as provided in section 170 of the Code. Legacies, devises, transfers, or gifts are deductible for federal estate and gift tax purposes if they meet the applicable provisions of Code sections 2055, 2106, and 2522.
